Gyeongju Restaurant is a very well known and 30 year old korean restaurant closeby the Nanjing East Rd MRT station. There is a wall of celebrities that have visited the restaurant over the years. They are also the first korean restaurant that I've been to that have Spicy Raw Crab on the menu. They serve the usual korean items like Bibimbap, Soon Dubu, and BBQ items. The decor and service is very average and the food items were just a bit above average. However to my knowledge, if you have a hankering for Spicy Raw Crab, this Gyeongju Restaurant is the closest place to get it near the East District.

Han Court State 韓庭州

Profile

Han Court State in the west entrance area of NTU. This is probably one of the better korean restaurants that are available in the area. It is really hard to find a good bowl of soon dubu, and you can't really find a fulfilling one here either. However, compared to the other options available in this 1 km radius from the main campus area, Han Family State is actually not bad. They also offer Korean BBQ with copper plates at this restaurant. The decor is not appealing, but the variety and low cost make this place a good option to curb a korean craving around the NTU area.

Review

It is hard to find a good bowl of Soon Dubu here in Taipei. A glimmer of hope sparkled up when I heard Ari Tofu House opened up for business. Supposively, this Korean-Chinese pop star opened up this so he should be able to front some good Soon Dubu, right? Well I guess what might be authentic isn't what I got used to in Southern California. Ari Tofu House offers soon dubu, bibimbap, seafood pancakes, and barbecue items. They also offer combinations with soon dubu and barbecue items, which cost around 440 NT per combination.

One of the foods I miss the most from Los Angeles is Soon Dubu. Restaurants like Tofu House serve up a scrumptious bowl of spicy tofu soup, which was a common late night snack. I had to make sure that I had a place in Taiwan to indulge in one of my favorite foods. After being tipped off by the hungryintaipei blog, I was determined to go and try Dubu House. Dubu house serves all the familiar soon dubu, sides, and BBQ items to alleviate your kimchi-itis. The price range is around 260 TWD per set meal, but it can run a little over 400 TWD if you get drinks and kalbi with your meal. The soup base was not as heavy and spicy compared to a medium at Tofu House, but the Soon Dubu here comes closer than the other "Tofu Pot" places I've encountered. Dubu house's exceptional food, sleek interior, and friendly service makes it an ideal place to drop a couple soju bombs over dinner with a couple friends.
